Radiation protection building made with precast concrete double-wall slabs

Forster Bau GmbH Ingenieurgesellschaft is the inventor of the patented "sandwich" construction method, using double-wall slabs filled with a combination of cost-saving materials.

This innovation replaces the meter-thick, heavily reinforced and expensive reinforced concrete walls that have been usual with a light, two skinned sandwich construction. It consists of thin, concreted double-wall prefabricated slabs designed to limit the development of cracks. Mineral materials such as gypsum, limestone, iron ore, slag, rolling scale and so forth – or combinations of mineral materials – can be poured as loose bulk material between the two wall slabs and then compacted.

Radiation protection calculations with ramifications for the structural- and construction engineering processes are performed in close cooperation with the University of Erlangen.
